Product Review- Lush Dark Angels

Product: Lush Dark Angels

Promises: Black sugar and charcoal gently exfoliate and absorb excess oils to leave dull, oily or acne-prone skin feeling fresh and matte. Even oily skin can be sensitive, so we've made this one soft and soothing to calm redness and irritation, too. Use all over for perfectly smooth, bright skin. An angel indeed!

Directions: Apply to desired area and smooth with fingertips for desired hold.

My Review: I first started using LUSH dark angels around January 2014.  I just so happen to start an all natural face wash routine so I figured LUSH would be a good place to find something good for my skin.  Now I struggle with melasma so I brought that to the attention of the LUSH employee when they started showing me facial cleansers.  I made sure to tell them I wanted something with lightening/brightening effects and also provided exfoliation.  They quickly pointed me to dark angels.  I have used this product consistently since then and I absolutely love it.  It has not lightened my melasma but I feel as though it gives my skin a glow and it takes off my make-up very well at the end of the night.  Now I must mention that I only use this as an exfoliating cleanser 3-4 times a week.  I use a different cleanser in the morning because I feel like this would dry my skin with overuse.

The only con I have to using this cleanser is that it is very messy.

Staple?: Most DEFINITELY

What's your favorite exfoliating cleanser?

My Review:

Oh. EMMMM. GEE. Okay, I'm not for real still this excited/amazed since I've been using this product for months but I am still sharing because I want ya'll to know how amazing it is! I literally was in Target randomly one day checking out what was on the shelves, saw this product, thought it sounded interesting, like something I needed, and thought 7.99 was a decent asking price. So I bought it. LOVE AT FIRST USE. For real yall. I primarily use it for twist outs (last product right before twisting) but I also use it as "edge controller" as well. As far as twist outs go, I use it on fresh ones (damp/wet) and retwists (dry), and get great definition with both. It gives a hold that isn't crunchy or drying but just enough to truly hold your intended style. My two main struggles are frizz and twist outs going 'limp' after a few hours. Thankfully this paste remedies both.

As far as using it as an edge controller, my hair is very thick and I've found that just about all other edge controllers I have tried (except one) don't even come close to being able to hold or control my hair. Also, many of them leave residue and buildup, or flake! This lovely magical product however, does none of the above. You could use it everyday if needed without your hair feeling gross or flaking, which beyond providing hold is all a girl could wish for right?!

Description wise, it is a true paste and has the consistency of any pomade and as with all CURLS products (at least the ones I've used thus far), the smell is fruity and pleasant. $7.99 may seem like a lot for this little jar (4oz), but a little bit truly goes a long way. I've had one jar for at least two months now, and I use it at least 2-3 times a week.

Would I recommend this product to a friend? ABSOLUTELY. In my opinion this product delivers fantastically on its claims and is reasonably priced. I suppose since I've been using it a while now its a staple product? I'll claim it. I will continue to use it regularly.
