My Journey through New Orleans -pt 1

A couple of weekends ago I went to New Orleans for some pre-lent fun.  So it was actually a weekend earlier than Mardi Gras but there were still Mardi Gras festivities.  We stayed at the Sheraton New Orleans which was on the edge of the french quarter.

Now before I went to New Orleans, I searched on yelp and groupon almost everyday to find the best food and activity options.  My main goal of my trip to New Orleans was to get all of my gluttony out before lent started.  Additionally, I adore New Orleans culture and have always wanted to go  especially after my new favorite show (The Originals) was based on the area.

*Pause* for a moment to swoon over  Joseph Morgan and imagine him saying sweet nothings in my ear ending in "-- my love" in that accent of his!

Ok I'm back!  So my main food goals while in New Orleans were the following: beignets, crawfish, gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, and oysters!  Anything outside of this list that I found tasty would just be a plus.

french onion soup
shrimp and grits
mahi mahi
dreamy weenies hot dog
house special (cream cheese, chilli, shredded cheese, pico de gallo, and creole mix)
fried crawfish tails

beignets

rum punch
jerk chicken and bbq brisket nachos
fried and blackened gator
catfish platter
Taste of New Orleans
(gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice)
hurricane
garlic butter crab claws
catfish po boy
boudin ball
butter pecan ice cream (goes with the bread pudding)
bread pudding with whiskey sauce (good but I can make better)

I ate soooo much native food of new orleans that I literally was sick of it by sunday night.  All I wanted was a burger, which I ended up getting from fuddruckers.  I had sooo much seafood and fried foods that I just felt like my body was sick of it.  I will say that I loved my time down there but I definitely can't spend more than 3-4 days at time.
