Product Review - Paul Mitchell Soft Style Heat Seal

Product: Paul Mitchell Soft Style Heat Seal

Price: 12.75 at Ulta

Promises: Builds body, provides light hold and enhances shine. Guards strands from damage caused by heat styling.

Review:
I have been using this heat protectant for over two years.  This is my favorite  heat protectant to use because it doesn't weigh down your hair and it leaves your hair light and feathery.  I have previously used tresemme thermal creations heat tamer spray and Got 2 be guardian angel.  I would say that the tresemme product did well but I prefer this one.  I can really tell a difference in the feel and lightness of my hair when I don't use this product.

I definitely will repurchase this heat protectant again.  It is a staple for me and I don't plan to get rid of it any time soon.

What heat protectant do you use?

My Review:

First let me say I am generally in LOVE with all things LUSH. And this toner is no different. Just about everything I've tried from there has been amazing. No lie. What I've discovered about this product is that it has several different uses. You can use it as a toner, as a make up remover, as a refresher/pick-me-up, or even as aromatherapy when diluted. I use it everyday immediately after washing my face, the rare moments I have heavy make up application, and those mornings I get up but am dead tired. If I had to describe the scent I'd say it smells like how I would imagine Rosemary Oil would smell, along with roses and water. I'm sure that description sucks but given the use of the product you won't be doing much smelling of it. When you spray it on your face it is definitely refreshing and cool (perfect for summer weather) and leaves your skin with a smooth silky feeling.

For those who are health and enviro conscious, this is a vegan product that is packaged in a bottle made from 100% recycled plastic. All LUSH products come with a sticker detailing who it was made by and when, and the use by date. I should say, I usually have a hard time finishing the product in the defined time. Okay I never do. But I continue to use it until its done. I'm told its safe.

I would definitely recommend not just this product to a friend, but I would encourage them to also visit the store and explore their products based on their particular body and skin needs/condition. I am sure I will have plenty more reviews on LUSH products in the future.

Summertime Hair..

My favorite season of the year is the SUMMER.  A lot of wonderful things happen in the summer... My birthday, no snow, concerts, picnics/cookouts, my birthday, roadtrips, beaches, vacation, and MY BIRTHDAY!
I think the hardest part of the summer for me is deciding what to do with my hair.  Right now my hair is in a transition state or should I say states.  I am currently sporting three different textures: natural, texlaxed, and relaxed.  Trust me it is a struggle handling all three states.  I am always dealing with breakage at the demarcation line of where the textures meet; however, I refuse to do a big chop.  I have transitioned to natural before without a big chop and I am determined to do it again.  Although I am transitioning to natural right now, this is not necessarily a permanent thing.  For now I am just trying to get one texture in my hair, and then I will decide if I want to go back to being relaxed.  So back to the problem at hand….3 textures and summer time humidity.
My current options: braids, wigs, flat iron, and natural state

Here are MY pros and cons for each

Braids/Twists
Pros:        minimal work for upkeep
                Protective style

Cons:       can cause damage if not proper care isn’t taken
                Heavy
                Hard on edges

Wigs
Pros:        Easy to wear
                Easy access to my hair
                Protective Style
                Minimal work for upkeep

Cons:       Feels like a winter hat
Double hair duty (Hair has to be taken care of while maintaining your own hair regimen)

Flat Iron
Pros:        new style
                Length checks
                Smooth cuticles
Quick styling
Quick night time routine

Cons:       Heat damage is a possibility
Durability is slim due to humidity and workouts

Natural State
Pros:        no heat styles
                Durable in humidity and workouts
                Easy on edges

Cons:       longer night time routine
                Daily maintenance

Does anyone else have any suggestions on what I should do with my hair?

Tutorial- Eyebrow Perfection

If you guys have the same problem as I do, lack of eyebrows, then you might like this post.  I will show you guys how I fill in my eyebrows in my make up routine.  Over the years I have combined all my favorite techniques from multiple youtube gurus until I finally landed on a routine that I liked.

Step 1: Primer
My eyebrows always look better when I make sure that I use face primer before I begin.  I prefer to use L'oreal Magic Perfecting Base.

Step 2: Outline the shape

My eyebrows are very thin and lack definite shape.  I tend to have to give them the shape that I want.  I do this by using an eyebrow pencil to follow the eyebrow that has the most shape to it.  I then try to mimic that on the other side.  Sidenote: You can always tweeze out stray hairs in your way.  I tend not to do that because I'm hoping they will fill in one day (wishful thinking).  I just color over the stray hairs as if they aren't there.

Step 3: Highlight

Add a highlight (usually a lighter foundation or concealer) around the bottom shape of the eyebrow.  Some do the top as well; however, I feel it takes away from the natural look.  It can either tend to give your the freshly waxed look or i just stenciled my eyebrows on look. But go with what you like

Step 4: Fill in the Brows

I usually fill in my eyebrows in three steps. I use the pencil I outlined the shape with to do a rough fill.  I then use a different shade brown to help patch up any gaps or holes in the first shade.  Then I take some eyebrow gel over the eyebrow lightly to help bring it altogether.

Step 5: Blend

Blend in the highlight line that you just created down into your eyelid.  This helps it to not look so harsh and drawn on.  It helps it look more realistic.
Step 6: Clean up

I then clean up my work by going over and under the eyebrow with my foundation lightly.  This helps to blur the highlight line that you created.

There you have it...That's my final product that I'm satisfied with.  Tell me what you do to get your perfect eyebrows...I've posted some of my favorite pics of my eyebrows over the years...I have zoomed in on some of the pics where it may not have been clear to see the eyebrows otherwise.

My Review:

I'm not sure why but I really enjoy facial masks and try new ones pretty regularly. Something about a product making your face tighten makes me feel like my face is clean. Weird I know. I picked this particular mask up on a whim at Ross, mostly because for 2.99 for 7 fl oz, it seemed worth a try.

Take Aways:

  • Light pleasant smell. Kind of perfumey but smells fresh and really good
  • Affordable
  • Great ingredients--green tea & avocado
  • Doesn't dry out your skin but leaves it feeling fresh and clean
  • Creamy, and thin layer is all that is needed
  • Tightens skin slightly
  • Perhaps only draw back is you have to sort of plan to use it and wash off really well. If you put it on then get in the shower the moisture (steam) in the shower will prevent the mask from tightening. This timing factor is the sole reason why I rarely end up using this mask 2-3 times a week.

Would I recommend this product to a friend? Yes, I think it works well and I like to use it 2-3 times a week (if I remember in enough time). I love the smell and the way it makes my face feel fresh and clean which I don't get sometimes with other cleansers. It was definitely worth the $3 bucks!
